The Website of Neil Harris

Neil Harris is an international award-winning science documentary film-maker. Starting as a Researcher on BBC-TV's 'Horizon', 'Tomorrow's World' and 'Making of Mankind' series from 1978, he has pursued a freelance career since 1981. Between 1983 and 1998 he made over twenty 1/2-hour programmes for the Foreign Office's 'Perspective' series, covering a wide range of developments in science from archaeology to nuclear fusion. Combined with numerous corporate videos for blue-chip companies and central government as an independent producer, he has gained insights into how science works in the academic and commercial spheres and its often fraught relationship with government in the UK. Concern over the dearth of new, paradigm-shifting science and the lack of serious science coverage in the UK at the start of the new millennium led him to wonder whether we have a real problem. A problem that has slowed progress in basic science and will lead eventually to the destruction of our culture.
